Amy Barton, LPC
Amy is a licensed professional counselor and a certified school counselor with over 20 years experience working with children, adolescents and families. She is passionate about helping people overcome life’s struggles while being an expert in the areas of substance abuse, autism, developmental disorders, and trauma.
Amy is a Certified Relapse Prevention Navigator, which is a non-shaming, non-blaming, harm-reducing model that helps minimize the negative effects of substance abuse and or dependence on lifestyle. This model is especially designed to help teens and their families enhance recovery, improve relationships, prevent relapse, and enhance coping skills. Most clients and their families report feeling empowered and hopeful with this method.
As a Certified AutPlay Therapist, Amy treats children and adolescents struggling with autism, ADHD, emotional dysregulation, neurodevelopmental disorders, and developmental disabilities. AutPlay therapy is a research-based style of therapy that has roots in play therapy, behavioral therapy, and relationship development approaches. The therapist collaborates with parents to assist the child or teen in gaining the needed skills and abilities. Research has shown that this method can improve social skills, decrease anxiety, improve concentration and sensory processing, decrease unwanted behavior, improve emotional regulation, and improve relationships.
Lastly, Amy works with child, adolescent and adult trauma. She is trained in a re-visioning technique that her clients find useful. She believes that the client is the expert in their life and by working together, the past can be healed and clients can achieve their best life.
With a down to earth personality and without any judgment, Amy facilitates a supportive environment with an atmosphere of acceptance and caring.
