If the decision to give therapy a try was not difficult enough, finding a therapist that is the right fit for you can feel like a massive undertaking. You probably are searching for a therapist who can help you, understands your experiences without judgement, and feels comfortable and safe enough to share vulnerably with. I appreciate the effort and steps it took you to make it here, the courage to reach out and allow someone new into your world, and the hope you have to want something different for you and your relationships.
What I bring to our work together is a calm presence, a respect and consideration for all parts of who you are, care and humor, and a deep curiosity and drive to reach towards your goals. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT Associate), I understand problems and solutions within the interconnected and dynamic world of relationships and context. Whether I am working with one person, a couple, or other forms of romantic or familial relationships, how people interact tells a story about each person’s fears, hurts, needs, wants, what keeps them feeling stuck, and their hopefulness and potential for change. You are probably here because you are tired of the blocks that continue to get in the way of you being, living as, and caring for your whole, authentic self. My clients are diverse in their identities, genders, sexualities, religions, cultures, and backgrounds. I invite each client’s uniqueness and expertise on themselves, and work with you collaboratively to find balance, nurture your worth, express your feelings and needs, and have new interactions. In these experiences, a person often begins to see, understand, and value themselves and their relationships in different ways.
I am an LGBTQ+ and gender affirming therapist, drawing from formal education, continued training, and identifying as a queer person, to support, and hold unconditional positive regard for LGBTQ+ individuals and their relationships through all life stages. My continued education includes training to perform evaluations and write letters of support for gender affirming surgeries using the Gender Affirmative and Supportive Surgery Evaluation Tool (Gender ASSET) and becoming an EMDR Trained Therapist to target a wide array of distressing issues including trauma. My therapeutic experience covers a range of presenting challenges including eating disorders in families, comorbidity of mental and physical health diagnoses, progressive illness, and personal and life transitions. I received my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Sexuality Studies from the University of California, Davis, and worked as a Mechanical Engineer for a few years before following my true passion for helping people through life’s many challenges. To follow my desired path, I attended Texas Woman’s University where I earned a M.S. in Family Therapy. Though my current and previous careers seem to clash, my strengths of understanding and communicating from an analytical and emotion-focused perspective, considering and coordinating multiple pieces in overlapping systems, and identifying patterns to form more generalizable solutions span both and highlight some of what I bring to the therapeutic relationship.
