Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Zach Walker is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern who has a strong passion for empowering children by creating a safe space for healing through child-centered play, and guiding the minds of teenagers and adults with a whole brain approach with respect to the individual’s autonomy.
Since 2013, he has an extensive background in the mental health field ranging from severe mental illness at Green Oaks Psychiatric Hospital’s emergency room to providing in-home skills training to children and parent coaching to adults at Pathways Youth and Family Services. Zach specializes in child-centered play for ages 3-18 who struggle with ADHD symptoms, anger management, anxiety, depression, PTSD, oppositional defiance, and mood disorders. He implements a wide variety of biopsychosocial approaches for helping adults balance the connection between mind, body, and spirit including Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoanalysis nutrition focused psychoeducation.
The therapeutic goal for children and adults is to empower the individual well enough to take on the challenges life presents and make the bumpy road ahead less bumpy. Zach is currently sharpening his skills as therapist by studying to become a Synergetic Play Therapist which is a researched-informed model of play therapy based on nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity.
"At the most basic level, secure attachments in both childhood and adulthood are established by two individuals sharing a nonverbal focus on the energy flow (emotional states) and a verbal focus on the information-processing aspects (representational processes of memory and narrative) of mental life. The matter of the mind matters for secure attachments." ~ Daniel J. Siegel
